Shoulder Elevation (3 Variations) (Clinical)

  • The SASH: Grasping band with right hand, place right hand on prominent front hip bone. Bring left hand, with thumb pointed down (or up if you have shoulder impingement problems,) up over right hand. Starting with some tension on the band, pull the band up and in a diagonal direction across your chest and upper body. Continue pulling, with the band making a straight line between your right hip and left shoulder, and bring arm back to touch hand to floor. Hold maximal position 2-3 seconds and return slowly to starting position.
  • The HEAD CRADLE: Keep right hand on right hip bone. Bring left hand, with thumb pointed down, over right hand. Pull band up along RIGHT SIDE of your body, bending your elbow, to bring your left hand down to the floor, cradling your head. Reach for the floor with the left ELBOW as well as the left hand. Hold maximal position 2-3 seconds and return slowly to starting position.
  • The SALUTE: Move right hand over to left hip bone or to midline of body. Bring left hand over the left hip, palm down or thumb up. Pull band straight up LEFT SIDE of body so as to bring left hand alongside your head touching the floor by your head. Hold maximal position 2-3 seconds and return slowly to starting position.
